*Ślepowrony* by Joanna Rajkowska and Robert Yerachmiel Sniderman is a dark tale about memory, violence, and humanity’s relationship with the animal world and other non-human beings.
At the heart of the story is the tale of Dzidek, a Jewish boy who, together with his mother, escapes from a transport to Auschwitz and finds refuge in the Polish marshes. Years later, he returns to the same landscape, now as a hunter.

Here, family history intertwines with a tale of nature, ancient beliefs, and hunting. The eponymous blind owls—according to Slavic beliefs, guides for souls between the worlds of the living and the dead—become part of a world where the boundary between humans and other beings blurs.
In Rajkowska and Sinderman’s puppet animation, victims and perpetrators, life and death constantly switch places, while nature bears the traces of violence.
A discussion with Joanna Rajkowska will follow the screening. The screening will also be accompanied by a presentation of the set design and puppets from the film
