The Hidden Spirits of Buildings (Ages 7–12)

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops accompanying the exhibition “Julie Mehretu. Kairos / Hauntological Variations”.

How do we remember places? Can buildings have their own “spirits”? During our meeting, we will look at architecture as a space full of traces, memories, and hidden stories.

We will spend part of the session directly at the exhibition. Together, we will view Julie Mehretu’s monumental works and search for the forms hidden within them. We will try to find fragments of buildings, city plans, and architectural “ghosts” that are not always visible at first glance. We will interpret the images as layered arrangements of structures that constantly appear, disappear, and intertwine.

 

After visiting the exhibition halls, we’ll transfer our discoveries onto paper. We’ll create our own compositions, drawing on our fresh experiences and inspirations.

We’ll turn to architectural drawing and build works from many different layers. We’ll superimpose elements on top of one another and see how they create entirely new, fascinating stories about the places around us.

 

Karo Jabłońska – MSN educator, art history student at the University of Warsaw. She leads exhibition tours, classes for children and teenagers, and workshops. In her work, she is inspired by the practice of storytelling and conversations with objects—asking them questions and then searching for answers together.
