The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to a sensory-friendly family workshop titled “Color and Light,” held in conjunction with the exhibition “Julie Mehretu. Kairos / Spiritual Variations.”
We will begin the session by viewing selected works by American artist Julie Mehretu. We will see large compositions filled with countless elements and colors of varying intensity. What will we notice when looking at them from a distance? What will reveal itself when we get closer? Fragments of maps, buildings, geometric shapes, intersecting lines, or perhaps splotches, traces of the artist’s gestures, and various mysterious symbols? We will also notice the light-filtering images, which will serve as our inspiration for our art project.
In the workshop room, we will create our own multi-element images. We will take scissors, colored foils, tapes, markers, and other supplies in our hands to create compositions full of light, overlapping colors, and shapes.
These sensory-friendly workshops take into account the needs of children with sensory sensitivities and those on the autism spectrum. They are conducted in small groups by appropriately trained facilitators. We also invite siblings of children with diverse needs and all families who wish to explore art in a welcoming environment. The sessions require active participation from caregivers, and pair activities strengthen the bond between parent and child.
