The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative, sensory-friendly family workshops accompanying the exhibition “Maria Jarema: Cracked Modernism”.
We’ll start our session with a visit to the exhibition. Together, we’ll look for answers to the question: what exactly is modernism, and why has it “cracked” in the exhibition’s title? We’ll consider whether a crack is always a bad thing. We’ll take a close look at the colors and shapes of the artworks. We’ll spark our imagination and explore what these images might feel like to the touch, smell like, or perhaps even taste like. The entire session will take place in an intimate, calm, and fully accepting atmosphere.
What will we do?
After visiting the exhibition, we’ll head to the workshop room to work with various materials and our senses:
First, we’ll try to recreate the colors from Maria Jarema’s paintings using paints. This will result in our own “color boards.”
While our paintings dry, we’ll work on creating multisensory boards.
We’ll use the colors and shapes inspired by the artist to build objects that engage different senses: sight, touch, and smell.

We’ll explore materials and combine unusual textures. This is a perfect opportunity to freely discover art through direct experience of our surroundings.
These sensory-friendly workshops take into account the needs of children with sensory sensitivities and those on the autism spectrum. They are conducted in small groups by appropriately trained facilitators. We also invite siblings of children with diverse needs and all families who wish to explore art in a welcoming environment. The sessions require active participation from caregivers, and pair activities strengthen the bond between parent and child.

Facilitator’s biography:
Natalia Suska – educator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Graduate of the Faculty of Artistic Research at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In art, she is interested in community practices and sisterhood, and in everyday life, in reading books.
