Exhibition "IN THE VERY BOWELS OF CHANGES: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism" at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw
What are we going to do?
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to sensory-friendly workshops for families, held in conjunction with the exhibition “You Are at the Heart of Change: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism.”
We’ll start our session with a tour of the exhibition to learn about Surrealism—an extraordinary art movement from a century ago through which artists expressed their opposition to the reality of their time. We’ll view mysterious works of art and search for magical realms within them. Along the way, we’ll explore whether the worlds of fantastical creatures resemble our own or look straight out of a fairy tale.
In the education room, we’ll try our hand at the grattage technique, which was extremely popular among Surrealists. By scraping away layers to reveal two-layered images, we’ll create our own incredible worlds—ones we never even dreamed of.
Who are these workshops for?
These sensory-friendly workshops take into account the needs of children with sensory sensitivities and those on the autism spectrum. Classes are held in small groups and supervised by properly trained educators.
We also invite siblings of children with diverse needs, as well as absolutely all families who want to explore art in a gentle, welcoming environment. The classes require active participation from caregivers, and the pair-based activities are a wonderful way to strengthen the bond between parent and child.

Important Tips
- A flexible plan allows children with different needs to participate.
- Before the workshop, we send an illustrated lesson plan.
- At the beginning of the session, we discuss the plan and duration.
- We minimize distracting stimuli (e.g., sounds, light).
- We are mindful of the participants’ sensory sensitivities.
- We explain difficult concepts using concrete examples.
- We use illustrations and pictograms.
- We work in a small group.
- A workshop ticket grants admission to the exhibition for up to 3 hours after the start of the session.
Biography of the Presenter
Paula Kuch-Krawiec —educator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Graphic designer and illustrator. A graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She also completed the Pedagogical Studies program at the Faculty of Visual Culture Management at the Academy of Fine Arts. In collaboration with cultural institutions, she leads various types of workshops for children, teenagers, and adults.
