The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops accompanying the exhibition “Julie Mehretu. Kairos / Spiritual Variations”.

Can a painting be danced? How big does a sheet of paper have to be to hold all our emotions? During the event, we’ll visit the exhibition halls together to stand face-to-face with Julie Mehretu’s monumental works. We’ll quickly discover that her paintings are not just colors and lines. Above all, they’re a record of energy, tempo, and movement that engages the whole body.
At the exhibition, we will look for the traces the artist left on the canvas—dynamic lines and sweeping gestures. We will examine the extraordinary scale of the works and see how our mood changes when we stand before a painting larger than ourselves. We’ll ponder whether abstraction has its own rhythm and what dance is hidden between the layers of paint.

What will we do?
After visiting the exhibition, we’ll move to the education room, which will transform into a huge, shared space for experimentation. Instead of sitting at tables, we’ll get our bodies moving! Drawing inspiration from the exhibition, we’ll create large-scale abstract works together. We’ll draw in a choreographed way: translating emotions into gestures and movement into lines. Every step and turn will leave its own unique mark on the paper!

Important information: During the class, we’ll be working with gusto, and our tools might end up everywhere! For this reason, we strongly encourage you to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We also recommend bringing a change of clothes that won’t restrict your movements during creative acrobatics.
