To celebrate Children’s Day, we invite you to the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw for a celebration of boundless imagination and joyful play with art! On May 30, we’ll transform the museum spaces into a laboratory for creative experiments. Together, we’ll create, play, uncover secrets, and get to know contemporary artists from a completely new, hands-on perspective. Get ready for an artistic adventure!

What will we be doing?

Forget about walking quietly through the galleries and viewing paintings from a distance. On this day, we’ll be taking action! We’ll be guided by extraordinary artistic instructions. As part of our collaborative activities, open to everyone:

    • We’ll take a peek inside Józef Gałązka’s magical boxes:

We’ll test in practice how a camera obscura works (the tool that was the great-grandfather of the camera!). We’ll see how the world turns upside down, and based on the artist’s “viewing exercises,” we’ll turn ordinary looking into real mindfulness training.

  • We’ll tie knots with Neha Choksi:
We’ll use long ropes and the artist’s special scores to create our own unique compositions. Together, we’ll tie and untie ropes, reflecting on how knots form and how they relate to our interpersonal relationships.

  • We’ll crack secret codes with Mirosław Bałka:
We’ll learn the forgotten semaphore alphabet! Using our hands and flags, we’ll exercise and send our own encrypted messages into the air.

Our experts from the MSN education team will be happy to help you with these and many other creative tasks.

Where did these exercises come from? A few words about “PrimaryForms”

All the games and activities we’ll be using during Children’s Day are part of the 5th edition of the “Primary Forms” program. This is an artistic and educational project that the MSN has been developing for five years in collaboration with the EFC Foundation.

Instead of traditional sculptures or paintings, renowned artists from Poland and around the world have created artistic scores, games, and instructions specifically for the youngest children. Packaged in an extraordinary box, they travel daily to schools in the Mazovia region, where students work with them during lessons. These works are like a “dormant exhibition”—they don’t exist until someone brave takes them into their own hands.

On May 30, you will have the opportunity to bring them to life and give them a completely new shape! We will experiment, laugh, and create art on our own terms. After all, in art there are no bad questions, no wrong answers, and no bad ideas.

Let’s spend this year’s Children’s Day having a wonderful time playing and creating art together. Let’s do it together! We’re waiting for you at MSN!
