We invite you to an inspiring event at the Museum of Modern Art, dedicated to the exhibition “Maria Jarema: Cracked Modernism.” This event is designed for educators (especially those in elementary schools) who are looking for fresh ideas on how to incorporate art into their lessons. It is also an opportunity for creative relaxation as the school year comes to a close.
The exhibition presents the work of the sculptor, painter, and co-founder of the Krakow Group. The exhibition showcases her interdisciplinary work—from painting and sculpture to costume and set designs for the Cricot Theater. The artist’s works, based on rhythmic shapes and vibrating structures, serve as a starting point for reflection on creative freedom and the relationship between the individual and the collective.
What have we prepared for you?
Guided tour with exercises: Together, we will walk through the exhibition, performing a series of practical exercises. Through them, you will learn how to explain concepts such as abstraction, figuration, synthesis, rhythm, and composition to students in a simple and engaging way.
Monotype workshop: We’ll explore Maria Jarema’s favorite technique in practice. It was her experiments with monotype—whose results can never be fully predicted—that gave her paintings such a unique character. We’ll show you how to conduct a monotype class in a typical school setting—without a specialized press, using readily available materials.
The goal of this session is to equip you with ready-to-use tools that will allow students not only to become familiar with art, but also to create independently and with joy.
Biography of the instructor:
June 10: Rita Twardziak
Art historian, museum educator (MSN, MNW), teacher, and PhD candidate at the University of Warsaw; graduate of the Institute of Art History at the University of Warsaw. In the field of modern art, she is particularly interested in Polish sculpture after 1945.
June 19: Paula Kuch-Krawiec
Educator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Graphic designer and illustrator. A graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She also completed the Pedagogical Studies program at the Faculty of Visual Culture Management at the Academy of Fine Arts. Collaborating with cultural institutions, she conducts various types of workshops for children, teenagers, and adults.
