The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to two unique concerts featuring Moog 35, Synthi VCS 3, Polymoog, and Serge synthesizers. The concerts will be followed by a discussion on the contemporary use of these historic electronic instruments with Thomas Ankersmit and Aleksandra Słyż.
Aleksandra Słyż's composition "The Long Pause Gives Way II" premiered on September 21, 2025, in the Museum's cinema hall as part of a collaboration with The Wapping Project and Warsaw Autumn. Based on her quadraphonic installation "The Long Pause Gives Way," commissioned by the Sonics & Scenics festival, Słyż presents a composition written especially for modular synthesizers from the legendary Polish Radio Experimental Studio. This will be only the second opportunity to hear this piece in public, which the composer performs live on Moog 35, Synthi VCS 3, and Polymoog synthesizers.
In his new series of works, "The Tcherepnin Series," Thomas Ankersmit creates pieces for large, original Serge systems that have survived in historic electronic music studios around the world. By 2026, he had recorded at Harvard University, Columbia University, CalArts (Los Angeles), EMS (Stockholm), GRM (Paris), and Willem Twee Studios (Den Bosch). His live performances are purely analog. Ankersmit combines live improvisation on his own Serge system with carefully composed material recorded on historical instruments, creating a unique and immersive listening experience.
