A grotesque, large-format oil painting depicting a tightly packed group of diverse, gloomy figures waiting at a bus stop. Small, colorful dogs scurry around their feet, and a flat, empty landscape can be seen in the background.
Edward Dwurnik, "Bus Stop" (1974)
From the series “Large Paintings,” acrylic and oil on canvas, 277 × 457 cm. Collection: Edward Dwurnik Foundation / private collection. | On view in the exhibition “Edward Dwurnik. Pride and Shame" at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

What are we going to do?

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops accompanying the exhibition “Edward Dwurnik: Pride and Shame.”

During a visit to the exhibition, we’ll see how everyday life can fascinate artists and how the ordinary can become something extraordinary. Do paintings have to show only kings, queens, and great battles? Edward Dwurnik proves that they don’t!

As we look at his works, we’ll reflect together on why the things that surround us every day deserve to be captured on canvas. Who does the artist depict in his monumental paintings? What do his subjects do?

We’ll discuss how everyday life affects us and how we can shape it. We’ll consider whether where we live and where we come from matters in our lives. Does everything always have to be extraordinary, or can we allow ourselves to be enchanted by the ordinary?

In the workshop portion , we’ll create wonderful dioramas of our favorite place—a space where we’d simply love to spend time every day. What will we put in them? What matters most to us? What do we want to have with us every day?

Important Tips

A workshop ticket grants admission to the exhibition for up to 3 hours after the workshop begins.
