Two men work intently with audio equipment in a cluttered studio. The space is filled with cables, mixers, and soundboards, creating a busy, focused atmosphere.

Yannis Patoukas and Mathijs Leeuwis treat the analog studio as an instrument for free improvisation (free-improv). Their work is rooted in a deep engagement with the history of electroacoustic music, and they are motivated by the belief that compositional practices and approaches considered outdated still hold significant artistic relevance today.

As part of a series of residencies at studios such as Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) and Het Concreet, they create sound materials using only the instruments, techniques, and resources available on site. Each studio becomes both a context and a catalyst, and its specific technological and historical conditions have a direct impact on the resulting work. The result of these residencies will be a music release demonstrating how historical technologies associated with the analog studio can generate experimental music relevant to the present day.

Following the concert by the duo Yannis Patoukas and Mathijs Leeuwis, Warsaw-based
improviser Patryk Zakrocki will present a DJ set using two
Nagra reel-to-reel tape recorders. This will be a continuation of experiments begun with the electroacoustic project Magnetic Memory Ensemble based on recordings stored on analog media, in which two reel-to-reel tape recorders serve as instruments—not only for playing back sound, but also for processing it in real time. The source material consists of field and studio recordings by Patryk Zakrocki.
