Cemetries (101-150/586)

Funeral culture interested and inspired Hasior as one of forms of commemoration. "Cmentarze" ["Cemeteries"] comprise a representative sculpture, planning solutions, abstract forms of commemoration, rituals held at places of eternal rest. Hasior documented not only Christian funeral cultures but also Jewish monuments. Building his studies the artist paid attention to typicality of solutions as well as to differences. "Cmenatrz KC KPZR Moskwa" ["Cemetery of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Moscow"] comprises, inter alia, a Socialist Realist representative sculpture. In "Cmentarze 1” ["Cemeteries 1"] the artist contained, inter alia, a passage through Polish Jewish cemeteries: these ones deteriorating, damaged, restored, led to simple, symbolic forms on their ruins. Among photographs we may find tombstones of famous creators, as Xawery Dunikowski or Władysław Broniewski, but also large-surface funeral concepts from the time of the First and Second World War. In addition to individual solutions, there are mass stonemason patterns (e.g. broken column) and folk versions of iconographic motifs known from the Bible. Naturally, he also paid attention to use and treatment of material as well as geographical (regionalisms) and chronological migration of forms and symbols (e.g. figures of wailers). He was also interested in the impact of time on the landscape of cemeteries. The photographs collected in these "Notatniki" ["Notebooks"] are documents of numerous Hasior's travels as well.

The set includes "Notatniki" ["Notebooks"]: "Pejzaż Cmentarny" ["Cemetery Landscape"] (247), "Cmentarze" ["Cemeteries"] (091, 092, 256), "Cmentarz Dziecięcy" ["Children's Cemetery"] (249), "Cmentarz Polski" ["Polish Cemetery"] (243), "Cmentarze Skandynawia" ["Cemeteries - Scandinavia "] (246), "Cmenatrz KC KPZR Moskwa" ["Cemetery of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Moscow"] (054), "Rzeźba Cmentarna" ["Cemetery Sculpture"] (094), "Cmentarz Skrzydlate Rzeźba cmentarna" ["Cemetery - Winged Figures - Cemetery Sculpture"] (244), "Zawody Nagrobne" ["Tombstone Competition"] (245).
