A monochromatic, cubist painting on a black background, depicting a horse's head contorted in pain, with its mouth wide open and its tongue sticking out.
The workshop at the exhibition “You Are at the Heart of Change: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism” will focus on surrealist depictions of nature. In this accessible way, we will introduce students to the basic principles of this movement. During the session, we’ll examine animal and plant motifs. Using these as examples, we’ll explore how and why Surrealists were so eager to transform reality in their works. We’ll explore whether art can change the way we perceive the world and how it affects our emotions.

In the workshop portion, we’ll seek inspiration from the artworks we’ve viewed and create animal hybrids that will become our alter egos and the protagonists of stories we invent together. These workshops are fully focused on cultivating sensitivity, recognizing difference, and appreciating diversity in art, imagination, and reality.

YOU ARE AT THE HEART OF CHANGE. SURREALISM AND ANTI-FASCISM
We invite you to the exhibition “You Are at the Heart of Change. Surrealism and Anti-Fascism” at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw! It’s a unique space to discover art that boldly dreamed of a better world.

Although Surrealism is often associated primarily with dreams and fantasy, the exhibition at the MSN presents it as a movement full of social engagement. Artists from around the world used the power of imagination to fight injustice, violence, and war. They proved that art has the power to change reality.

The exhibition provides the perfect backdrop for educational workshops. We’ll take preschoolers on a journey into a land of extraordinary forms, teaching them empathy and how to express their emotions. With school students, we’ll talk about freedom, the power of solidarity, and art as a tool of resistance. Together, we’ll discover that each of us can be at the heart of change!
