The Sculpturesess is a performative archive of a female bond and individuality. In retracing the footsteps of the women pioneers of the 19th-century sculpture and the ways of the sisterhood that connected them, the authors raise each other’s body to the sculpting block as the subject of mutual creation. They publicly cite the art of international lesser known women artists, including Tola Certowicz, Hélène Bertaux, Antonina Rożniatowska, Maria Gerson-Dąbrowska, Jadwiga Łubieńska.
This is an invitation to experience sculpture through choreography. The duo, grounded in dialogue and a shared rhythm is a continuous search for an adequate formula to express the social status of a relationship between women. Their bodily statue transgresses individuality as it is being sculpted live; it brings together the sense of empowerment and (in)dependence, gymnastics and eroticism.
The piece has been created at the invitation from the National Museum in Warsaw as a special event accompanying the exhibition Corsets Off: Camille Claudel & Polish Women Sculptors of the 19th Century.
