The Fox

Describing the genre of The Fox is difficult in that director Dario Russo (known for the TV series Danger 5 and the parody Italian Spiderman) blends black comedy, folk fairy tales, marital satire, and an exceptionally wild horror film in roughly equal proportions. And after watching it, what you’ll remember most is that this is the movie in which Oscar-winning Olivia Colman plays a horny animatronic vixen.

A not-so-bright fox hunter (Jai Courtney) has a big problem – his beloved girlfriend (Emily Browning) is cheating on him with her boss. During a nighttime hunt, the man encounters a talking vixen who makes him an offer he can’t refuse: in exchange for sparing her life, she’ll help him transform his girlfriend into the perfect woman.

Even at this stage, it sounds intriguing, to say the least, and later on, Russo lets loose and takes things even further.

The Fox is ultimately, above all, a wild satire on relationship troubles, presented in the form of a folk tale with a healthy dose of vulgarity and dark humor. And Olivia Colman proves once again – even though she appears only as a voice here – that her star status didn’t come out of nowhere.
