Stories Woven About Warsaw (Ages 4–6)

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to workshops accompanying the exhibition “The Paths of Black People Enter the White Continent”.

During our visit to the exhibition , we will examine two tapestries. These works draw inspiration from various perceptions of Africa. What colors, textures, and compositions will we see in them? What associations will these works evoke in us? These questions and answers will serve as a starting point for a deep reflection on how art depicts different places and where our perceptions of the world come from in the first place. Depending on the group’s age, we’ll discuss initial associations and stereotypes. We’ll take a critical look at these works and consider together whether a single depiction can tell the story of an entire, vast continent.

In the workshop portion , we’ll seek inspiration from the artworks in the exhibition and create miniature textiles on simple looms! We’ll weave our own stories about Warsaw. We’ll incorporate our favorite places, memories, and everyday experiences—not just the city’s most recognizable symbols. Discussing our work together will be a great opportunity to talk about how a single place can be depicted in many different ways, and how every image shows only a fragment of reality. Through this, we’ll all come to realize that our perceptions of places are always a selection of specific elements and can change as we discover entirely new perspectives.
