A view of the exhibition in the gallery’s bright interior. On a long, black pedestal against a white wall, fourteen diverse wooden masks mounted on thin metal rods are displayed in a row. Among them, one mask—very tall and narrow, shaped like a vertical plank—clearly stands out.
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to sensory-friendly family workshops accompanying the exhibitions “The Paths of Black People Enter the White Land” and “You Are at the Heart of Change: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism.”

What will we be doing?
During our visit to the exhibitions, we’ll see African and theatrical masks. Together, we’ll think about what materials they were made of, who they represent, and what they might have been used for.

In the workshop portion, we’ll create masks that tell a story about ourselves. We’ll try to express our own interests, emotions, and personality traits through them. We’ll also decide whether they’ll serve as part of a costume or perhaps become a beautiful decoration. Our masks will be made of soft foam, felt, wool, and other materials. We’ll experiment with textures, colors, and shapes!

Event Availability

Sensory-friendly workshops are designed to meet the needs of children with sensory sensitivity and those on the autism spectrum. They are conducted in small groups by specially trained facilitators. We also invite siblings of children with diverse needs and all families who wish to explore art in a welcoming environment. The sessions require active participation from caregivers, and pair activities strengthen the bond between parent and child.

If you need more information, please contact us by email at muzeumdostepne@artmuseum.pl or by phone at 577 006 290.
  • The workshops begin before the museum opens to the public.
  • A flexible program allows children with diverse needs to participate.
  • We send an illustrated schedule of activities before the workshops.
  • At the beginning of the session, we discuss the plan and duration.
  • We minimize distractions (e.g., sounds, light).
  • We are mindful of participants’ sensory sensitivities.
  • We explain difficult concepts using concrete examples.
  • We use illustrations and pictograms.
  • We work in a small group.
