Nepela

Czechoslovakia, 1972. Ondrej Nepela returns from the Winter Olympics in Sapporo with a gold medal, a star at the peak of his career. Back home, he is greeted not only by fame but also by the realities of the communist regime, for which athletic success is a tool of propaganda. Sensitive and withdrawn, Nepela longs to break free from his uncomfortable “golden cage.” He wants to live in harmony with who he truly is. A trip abroad that had been promised to him is canceled at the last minute, and the athlete is ordered to compete in the World Championships for the sake of the country’s reputation.
