The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to art workshops with Patryk Różycki, which take as their starting point two of his works from the “Transformation” series. An exhibition of the artist’s works is currently on view alongside the exhibition “Edward Dwurnik: Pride and Shame” and can be seen on the second floor of the Museum of Modern Art.
These works tell the stories of people who have no space to share their histories—often due to social taboos and a sense of shame that compels them to remain silent.
The title of the workshop is a phrase that many people recognize from their own lives. It is said out of fear, concern, or shame, and it always means the same thing: don’t talk about it; no one needs to know. Such a phrase often confines difficult experiences within four walls, with no witnesses.
What will we be doing?
In this workshop, we’ll focus on precisely these invisible stories. We’ll reflect on what’s happening in our private lives and look for an outlet. These might be stories about relationships with loved ones, about distance, a sense of not being understood, unspoken fears, hidden dreams, or simply everyday struggles. The starting point could be a single overheard sentence, an object, a receipt, or a specific place and year.
The workshop aims to awaken our courage and creativity and encourage us to tell our own stories through art. We’ll start with a simple exercise using sticky notes to help us break the ice. An important part of the session will be an open conversation, during which each person will decide how much of their story they want to reveal and how to translate that into the language of art. Next, we’ll try to formulate a visual expression of this by painting a story from our lives on canvas. We’ll build a collective expression based on individual voices, mutual listening, and artistic expression. The result will be drawings, paintings, and written works.
