Ghost in the Cell

A new inmate arrives at a harsh Indonesian prison. The man is quiet, calm, and doesn’t fit in at all with the world of brutal gangs and corrupt guards. Along with him, something else haunts the prison—a demon that possesses only those inmates who get the most… angry.

Ghost in the Cell is the textbook definition of the term “high concept.” Indonesian horror veteran Joko Anwar (best known for The Satan's Slaves) blends horror with an exceptionally twisted and bloody comedy. Here, prisoners living under extremely stressful conditions must not only join forces against their previous alliances but also do everything they can to avoid getting angry – otherwise, a murderous force will take control of their bodies.

As a result, we’re treated to a film that’s sure to appeal not only to fans of Asian horror, but also to fans of Braindead or Dead Evil 2. In Ghost in the Cell, horror goes hand in hand with gore pushed to the absolute limit, and each successive plot twist elicits both genuine confusion and nervous laughter.
