The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops accompanying its latest exhibition, “Sculpture After Stability.”
What if our hands were as soft as fresh clay, and everything we touched left a mark on them? A stone, a piece of fabric, a leaf, a pen... What textures and objects would leave their mark on our hands? Would they bear traces of the things we don’t want to lose from our memories? We’ll try to answer these questions together during the workshop.
What will we be doing?
We’ll start by seeking inspiration in the art from the exhibition “Sculpture After Stability.” Among other things, we’ll take a look at the work of Kaari Upson. This artist combined casts of a tree growing next to her family home with impressions of her own knees. We’ll also look through Gizela Mickiewicz’s transparent sculpture and try to decipher the imprints of specific encounters, situations, and experiences.
In the hands-on session , children and adults will create clay reliefs in the shape of their hands. We’ll press various materials and objects into them to create an abstract record of what tells our story. Finally, we’ll combine all the hands into a shared, family composition.
