The Screaming Woman
It’s still a few months until Christmas, but thanks to The American Dollhouse, you’ll have the chance to get into the holiday spirit as early as September! Well, that is, provided that the end of December reminds you not only of Christmas trees, presents, and baking gingerbread cookies, but also of running away from neighbors straight out of hell.

John Valley, the director of Pizzagate, which screened five years ago in the Midnight Movies section at the Octopus Film Festival, returns with a film that’s seemingly more serious but just as skillfully employs the grotesque.

The American Dollhouse tells the story of Sarah, who moves into her late mother’s house just before Christmas. She quickly discovers that along with the property, she has also inherited a psychopathic, persistent neighbor.

Although the plot here resembles a classic slasher film, the greatest strength of Valley’s film is the extraordinary atmosphere of American suburbs frozen in time – places that always seem friendly on the surface but often hide dark secrets.
