The next event in the “Architecture in the Center” series will begin with a conversation with the project’s founder, Vladimir 518, and director Jan Zajíček, the creators of the film Czechoslovak Architecture 58–89. The discussion will be moderated by Jędrzej Olczyk from Newonce. Before the screening, a short archival segment from the MSN collection will be shown.
What remains of architectural dreams when history changes? Czechoslovak Architecture 58–89, the first feature-length documentary devoted to Czechoslovak architecture from 1958 to 1989, revives the memory of buildings and designers whose work remained underappreciated or was doomed to destruction for years.
Through the accounts of architects and historians, as well as impressive photographs of the most interesting projects, a picture emerges of an era full of bold experiments that flourished despite political constraints.
The film is both a story about modernism and an attempt to preserve its legacy.
