A surrealist painting. Against a vast, very dark background, there is a three-dimensional frame outlined in light lines, resembling a room without walls. Inside it stand three trees and several small, simplified, and fantastical figures.
A visit to the exhibition “You Are at the Heart of Change: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism” will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the context in which artists who were actively involved in the fight against fascism, colonialism, and violence worked. We’ll explore why, for the Surrealists, the absurd, dreams, and the creation of a new visual language became the primary means of addressing a challenging reality.
We’ll analyze selected works and discuss propaganda, democracy, migration, and human rights. Together, we’ll consider whether art can truly change the reality around us. We’ll conclude the session by creating our own manifesto, drawing on the Surrealists’ revolutionary ideas.

YOU ARE AT THE HEART OF CHANGE. SURREALISM AND ANTI-FASCISM
We invite you to the exhibition “You Are at the Heart of Change: Surrealism and Anti-Fascism” at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw! It’s a unique space to discover art that boldly dreamed of a better world.

Although Surrealism is often associated primarily with dreams and fantasy, the exhibition at the MSN presents it as a movement full of social engagement. Artists from around the world used the power of imagination to fight injustice, violence, and war. They proved that art has the power to change reality.

The exhibition provides the perfect backdrop for educational workshops. We’ll take preschoolers on a journey into a world of extraordinary forms, teaching them empathy and how to express their emotions. With school students, we’ll discuss freedom, the power of solidarity, and art as a tool of resistance. Together, we’ll discover that each of us can be at the heart of change!
