About the Project: Mission and Objectives

The ART-Bridge project (Art, Resilience & Togetherness – Bridging Cultures Through Contemporary Art) is an international initiative of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, carried out with financial support from the European Union under the Erasmus+ program (Adult Education sector).

Background: From Emergency Aid to Long-Term Integration

In the early days of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw opened its doors to the “Solidarity” Cultural Center “Słonecznik,” which for a long time served as a crisis center and a support space for refugees, artists, and activists.

The ART-Bridge initiative is a natural extension of this experience. It marks a groundbreaking step: the transition from emergency aid to the creation of lasting, structural educational and integration programs. By using contemporary art as a universal language of communication, we create conditions for professional development, the building of agency, and the full social inclusion of Warsaw’s new residents.
Enhancing the Competencies of the MSN Staff
We invest in the development of the Museum’s staff and regular collaborators through participation in international educational mobility programs. Language training trips and job shadowing opportunities allow our staff to develop skills in intercultural education and communication, and to learn about innovative, engaging methods of museum work.

Creating a Safe and Open Space at the MSN
At the Museum, we are building an open, safe space for dialogue among adults with migration experiences from Ukraine and Belarus. The project allows participants to learn about the inner workings of the institution and invites them to transition from the role of observers to actively co-creating MSN’s cultural program. One of the elements of the Art-Bridge group’s work was also a study visit to partner cultural institutions in Berlin.

Internationalization of MSN and Exchange of Best Practices
We are building and strengthening our network of cooperation with partners and cultural institutions across Europe. Exchanging experiences in the areas of social inclusion and working with culturally diverse groups allows us to draw on the best European practices and continuously improve the quality of our educational offerings

What is the ART-Bridge Group?

The ART-Bridge Group is a team of adult residents of Warsaw—selected through a recruitment process—who have experienced migration from Ukraine and Belarus and are passionate about art, culture, and the humanities.

The main goal of the program is to transition from the role of a passive observer of culture to that of an active co-creator of the institution’s program. Participants gain unique insight into the inner workings of the Museum, develop their skills in an international environment, and co-create their own educational and cultural initiatives under the guidance of the MSN Education Department.

Scope of Activities and Programs
  • Recurring workshops in Warsaw (December 2025 – January 2027):
The group participates in regular meetings and workshops at MSN venues (ranging from 4 to 10 hours per month). The working language of the sessions is English, which allows participants to develop professional vocabulary in the fields of art and culture in a practical way.
  • Co-creating MSN’s cultural program:
Group members consult on and implement their own ideas for events and educational activities, contributing their own perspective to the Museum’s public program.
  • Study trip to Germany:
A key item on the group’s schedule is a 5-day group visit to the renowned partner institution Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin. The trip aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, learn about European best practices in inclusive education, and build an international network of contacts
