Back to the City
"Back to the City" is the main exhibition of the third edition of WARSAW UNDER CONSTRUCTION festival.
We want to find answers to three questions, so important for any resident of Warsaw: What can be done to make apartments of higher quality yet of lower prices? How can we curb the spatial chaos in Warsaw? Can active involvement of the residents in the affairs of their city lead to a positive change? The exhibition features historical documents, mock-ups, old plans and drawings of the city, as well as photos (both archive photos and newer documentary pictures by Jan Smaga), which capture the issues and the specific character of the post-1989 Warsaw.
We also present the effects of the 18-month cooperation between the Museum, the think tanks established especially for the purposes of the Warsaw Under Construction festival, and a number of experts in urban development and urban activists. While the project involved the identification of trouble spots on the map of Warsaw, it was also a quest to find the city's hidden potential. The towers made of scaffolding will add a touch of multidimensionality to the exhibition. A presentation on the foundations of today's postmodern architecture in Poland constitute a separate event.
The entire exhibition will be merged into the unique architecture of the Warsaw School of Economics, which will serve the double function of being the backdrop for the event and its integral part as well. During the tours around the Warsaw School of Economics' campus, the visitors will be able to listen to the audio guides that were created specifically for the occasion in order to enhance the attendees' experience of Jan Witkiewicz Koszczyc's extraordinary work.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition features a special event – the illumination of the Parachute Hall's 224-window dome.
