Painters of illustrations
The “Painters of Illustrations” is the exhibition of young Polish illustrators. Although they do not represent any homogenous school or style, their works clearly show fascination in and references to the Polish Poster School and the tradition of visual arts.
To young people, such personalities as Henryk Tomaszewski, Jan Młodożeniec or Waldemar Świerzy are not merely the authors of great illustrations which they remember from their infant years, but also the living points of reference and sources of inspirations. It is from their traditions that the young artists take the stylistic diversity, the succinctness and brevity of expression, the primacy of concept over the ornamentation and the aware use of the colour and the composition.
The exhibition will present about 70 works of more than thirty young generation artists representing different techniques and styles, who depict the complexity and diversity of contemporary Polish illustration. Most of them live and work in Warsaw.
The “Painters of Illustrations” is yet another guest exhibition after the “For Example. The New Polish House” (organized by Centrum Architektury) and SHOWROOM (organized by the Warsaw Gallery Weekend), which makes use of the expanse on Pańska street. After the exhibition activity was moved to the neighbouring Emilia pavilion, the place has been used for presenting the most important initiatives and projects connected with Warsaw. It aims at attracting attention to the diversity of the Warsaw artistic scene and its connections with other disciplines, like fashion, design, architecture, illustration or business graphics.
