Henryk Stażewski. Nine Rays of Light in the Sky

The Museum organizes the re-creation of a project by Henryk Stażewski (1894-1988), a leading artist of the avant-garde movement in Poland and a legendary figure in the artistic cityscape of Warsaw.

The “nine rays of light in the sky” are an example of abstract “painting”, conceived by Stażewski as solely geometric. The work was first displayed on the 9th of May 1970, during an artistic symposium Wroclaw 70., an immensely important event in the history of Polish conceptual art. The re-creation of Stażewski’s work is the first of a series of artistic projects in public space, which will be carried-out by the Museum at various locations throughout Warsaw in the forthcoming years.
