RUPTURING THE DIALECTIC. THE STRUGGLE AGAINST WORK IN THE ERA OF FINANCIALIZATION
Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to a lecture by Harry Cleaver.
The ongoing financialization of the economy since the 1970s is not a result of the autonomous logic of economic expansion. Harry Cleaver demonstrates that it is in fact capitalism’s response to the growing power of labor protests. Policies imposed by the financial world (austerity measures, the privatization of public services and social security systems, the precarification of work) have sparked new forms of resistance from the labor force. The Occupy and Indignados movements as well as parties like Podemos and Syriza represent varying methods and degrees of labor resistance in an era of financial capital. Can they develop an effective resistance strategy against the financial power complex and its state supporters?
