C. SPENCER YEH: film compilation and concert

  • South Third Street Forever: Trailer compilation from Spectacle Theater (2010-2013)

Until recently, there was an abandoned bodega – shabby wine cellar – on the outskirts of southern Williamsburg, an artistic district of Brooklyn, vibrant with life. It was there that four years ago a team of artists, filmmakers, writers and musicians opened an independent cinema and concert space under the name: the Spectacle Theatre.

This bottom-up, do-it-yourself-spirited organization is an oasis of the off cinema, which offers the local community the most refined audiovisual experiences: from artistic cinema, through self-futurism and grindhouse, to concerts of experimental music and performances. Among the hallmarks of the collective activity of the Spectacle Theatre are extraordinary, self-prepared trailers and film posters as well as other paraphernalia of the cinematic culture.

On Saturday evening, the most interesting of them will be presented by one of the Spectacle Theatre curators, musician and performer, C. Spencer Yeh, in a compilation prepared specifically for the occasion. After the presentation, the audience of the Museum will have the chance to listen to a concert given by the artist. C. Spencer Yeh is an instrumentalist, improviser and author of the musical project which combines electronics, noise and free improve - Burning Star Core. Spencer has to his credit cooperation, among others, with Tony Conrad, The New Humans with Vito Acconci, Paul Flahertym and Chris Corsano, Lasse Marhaug, Robert Piotrowicz, Okkyung Lee, Rhys Chatham’s Guitar Trio All-Stars, Damo Suzuki’s Network. His albums were released by such record label companies as: Software, Drone Disco, Important Records, or the Polish Bocian Records. Yeh performed, among others, in New Museum in New York, Ballroom Marfa, The Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Issue Project Room, Brooklyn, Roulette, Brooklyn, ICA, Philadelphia, ICA, London, White Flag Projects, St. Louis, Performa, Lampo, Sónar, Frieze Music and All Tomorrow’s Parties.
