  • RAGE REVIEW

Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites to a review of films by Jill Godmilow.

A series of films that document, express, problematize, and manifest resistance and outrage at power, systems, social and cultural orders, the patriarchy, and capitalism. With a particular emphasis on anger, indignation, and outrage, stoked by helplessness or revolutionary fervor.

These movies are thus expressions of social upheaval, artistic performances, journals, and metaphorical manifestations of a certain state of mind. Anger and outrage often lead to violence. Violence, in turn, leads to violence, threatening to spiral down into even more violence. The time to stop it is now. But it’s also time that we reflect on the subject of violence, the links between violence and capitalism, and the ties between violence and the patriarchy.

Curated by Jill Godmilow, an American director and activist, this movie series showcases documentaries and feature films that have never been screened in Poland and revisits pictures that have unjustly been forgotten.
The series also includes the Polish premiere of Jill Godmilow’s latest film, SCUM Manifesto, a remake of the French film from the 1970s, which she shot in Poland with a cast of Polish actors. Preceding the screening will be a talk by Agnieszka Graff.
Join us on the opening day for a Q&A with director and curator Jill Godmilow, the maker of such films as Far from Poland, What Farocki Thought, and Waiting for the Moon. A retrospective of her work was hosted in 2015 by the Museum of Modern Art, which purchased Far From Poland for its own collection.

Jill Godmilow: “Women with a sense of civic duty, women that are responsible and bold have no choice but to overthrow the government and dismantle the monetary system…”
