After the lecture by Beatriz Colomina, the exhibition "Radical Pedagogies. Reconstructing Architectural Education" will be opened in the exhibition pavilion of the Faculty of Architecture, Warsaw University of Technology.
"Radical Pedagogies" presents an atlas of intense but short-lived pedagogical experiments that played a crucial role in shaping architectural discourse and practice in the second half of the twentieth century. These experiments challenged and redefined the field of architecture. They were radical in the literal meaning from the Latin radix (root), the basis or foundations of something. This global array of new modes of teaching shook foundations and disturbed assumptions, rather than reinforce and disseminate them. “Radical Pedagogies” occupied, subverted and rejected traditional educational institutions but had long-lasting impact. Much of architectural teaching today still rests on the paradigms they introduced.
"Radical Pedagogies" constitutes an “open archive” that encourages debate regarding the history and future of architectural pedagogy. Conceived as an interactive platform, the installation for the 7th Warsaw Under Construction festival incorporates take-away texts, facsimiles, original publications and teaching documents, archival films, and implements features of augmented reality.
