Boring Drug is a collective combining synthesizer and percussion sounds in order to flirt with disappearing or long gone musical genres: krautrock, spacesynth, new age or art rock (which is legitimized by the presence of two artists in the band: Łukasz Jastrubczak and Tomasz Kowalski). Boring Drug’s concerts also relate to the mythology of the XX-century avant-garde: the band has improvised to, for example, Robert Smithson’s video recording stretched in time (“Asphalt Rundown,” 1969) or performed fragments of the said artist’s classic essay “A Tour of the Monuments of Passaic" (Artforum, 1967).
Recently, Altanova Press has released Boring Drug’s debut album. Sebastian Buczek, the publisher of this eccentric record, explains: “The album was recorded on beeswax, copied on a hand press from a copper matrix in Pogorzelec and released on coloured and natural PCL in 100 copies. In case of a necessary home recycling, all you have to do is submerge the record in water heated up to 70 degrees.”
Boring Drug’s park concert, which is going to accompany the burial of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s work, will be testing the band’s and listeners’ limits: their performance is going to be stretched over several hours. Boring Drug's lineup will be extended by an artist and instrumentalist Ewa Polska (theremin) and an actor Jaśmina Polak (voice).
