Is a sculpture always a stationary monument? At the exhibition, we’ll discover objects made of traditional clay, but also of… truck tarps. We’ll explore whether sculpting is more like dancing or building machines, and we’ll examine works that look as if they’re about to collapse. Does a sculpture even have to stand steadily and be durable?
Workshops: By combining natural and artificial materials, we’ll create our own abstract structures. We’ll conduct sculptural experiments with balance, gravity, and the deliberate lack of stability in form.
Sculpture Beyond Stability
The exhibition “Sculpture Beyond Stability” presents contemporary sculpture in a completely new and surprising light. Durability, permanence, and perfection are no longer the artists’ primary goals. In today’s ever-changing world, sculpture is moving away from the form of a heavy, immobile monument. Instead, it is becoming a fascinating arrangement of processes, tensions, and relationships.
The exhibition brings together works by international artists who boldly experiment with materials. The exhibition surprises with its form, and—importantly for the dynamics of a group tour—the works are not confined to traditional exhibition halls. The sculptures break free from their frames, “spilling” into the museum’s corridors and common areas.
How do we work with students at the exhibition?
Our educational program provides a space for physical and creative activity. We use these unusual forms as a starting point to:
- develop spatial imagination and constructive thinking,
- stimulating sensory awareness (exploring textures, weight, and tension),
- learning to collaborate and observe ongoing processes attentively.
