    Martyna Czech, "Farewell", 2016

In 2019, 71 works were purchased to the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as part of the "National Contemporary Art Collections" program.

Art collection of the Museum of the Modern Art in Warsaw is expanded in two areas: in relation to the historical avant-garde artistic traditions of the second half of the 20th century and to new artistic trends specific to the art of our time that contribute to the debate on the contemporaneity. The collection aims to shape the space for dialogue, to build meanings and analyze phenomena both in the field of art and other disciplines related to contemporary culture, primarily social sciences.

In 2019 the Museum acquired the works of the following artists:

  • Elżbieta and Emila Cieślar,
  • Mateusz Choróbski,
  • Martyna Czech,
  • Teresa Gierzyńska,
  • Petrit Halilaj,
  • Jolanta Marcolla,
  • Iwona Mysera,
  • Jerzy Stajuda,
  • Vivian Suter.

The selection of new works for the collection is associated with the educational dimension of the institution's activities. The museum focuses on building a collection of significant works of contemporary artists, which express the diversity of media and artistic attitudes. Thus, it illustrates the dynamics of artists' participation in social life, information flow and the development of technology of our time. One of the main tasks accompanying the construction of the collection is the scientific development and inclusion of the heritage of outstanding Polish artists of the 20th and 21st centuries in the international canon.
