Sady Żoliborskie is a rare example of a Warsaw neighborhood whose name truly reflects its essence and reality—after all, there are still about 360 fruit trees growing there. Its architect, Halina Skibniewska, believed that the promise made to residents in the name should be fulfilled and that a unique space should be created with which the local community could identify. In this way, she created one of the most highly regarded residential developments in the history of 20th-century Polish architecture.
During the walk, we’ll learn about the history of this extraordinary housing estate, located on the site of former fruit orchards. We’ll examine not only the various stages and layers of its development but also the squares, the vegetation, and the park filled with old varieties of apple, pear, and plum trees.
