This cycling tour, designed by Maciej Łepkowski, leads through the area of the former Urzecze microregion—a unique landscape situated along the Vistula River, which, within the boundaries of Warsaw, stretches from Czerniaków through Siekierki, Augustówka, Zawady, and Wilanów, all the way to the border with the municipality of Konstancin-Jeziorna.
During the trip, we’ll discover the rich cultural and natural heritage of these areas, their agricultural character, and the role they’ve played in the city’s life for centuries. We’ll also discuss the dynamic changes taking place on the outskirts of Warsaw and the potential still held by the vast open spaces of Urzecze.
The starting point for the tour is the concept of creating Urzecze Park—an agripark that would connect fields, meadows, wasteland, family garden plots, reserves, and other open spaces into a single, cohesive, linear park stretching from Mokotów all the way to the city’s southern borders. Urzecze Park could become a unique place for Warsaw, combining natural, recreational, educational, and productive functions, strengthening the relationship between the city and its food-producing hinterland, and actively supporting food sovereignty in the capital.
