The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops accompanying the massive painting installation “Rdzeń” (“Spine”) created by artist Minh Lan Tran. The work is located in the museum’s stairwell.

During the session, we’ll explore how our bodies react to the Museum’s architecture and how we can engage in a direct dialogue with it. The artist has created a massive structure that stretches from the floor to the skylight and reacts naturally to light and the movement of passersby. Together, we’ll explore how our own presence can transform the space around us. We’ll seek answers to these questions through joyful experiments with gravity, our own bodies, and the traces we leave behind.

What will we do?
In the workshop portion, we’ll shift our perspective and translate our impressions from the tour directly into visual art. We’ll draw inspiration from the installation’s vertical, fluid form. We’ll try to open ourselves up to the forces of chance and gravity!
Instead of sticking to rigid rules and traditional tools, we’ll focus on joyful collaboration in family teams and large-scale painting. We’ll use our hands, feet, and our own energy to collectively cover vast swaths of paper with color. We’ll see how a dynamic, free-flowing gesture can completely transform the space around us and turn it into a story about our presence at the Museum.

Active participation by at least one adult is required for this event.

Do you have a ticket for the workshop? Be sure to visit the exhibition, too!
Your workshop ticket grants you access to the exhibition (for up to 3 hours from the start time of the workshop).
