Uncensored History

Damian Terlecki, known by the pseudonym CZARNOBYL, is a Polish visual artist born in 1974 who grew up in Jarosław and has lived and worked in Berlin since the early 1990s. His work has its roots in street art, but has long since transcended its boundaries.

 

During the event, we will learn how the artist himself defines his art, its function, and its relationship with the viewer

For many, Chernobyl is a symbol of catastrophe and destruction. For Damian Terlecki, it is a metaphor for the deepest transformation. Where it seemed that everything had been reduced to rubble, something new, powerful, and true is born. During the CZARNOBYL event, he will talk about his artistic journey—from shadow to light—and about the technique that has become his primary language: stenciling.

 

Over the next few minutes, he will demonstrate how works that tell stories emerge from chaos, memory, and precision. The artist’s remarks will be accompanied by a presentation of archival photographic and film materials.
