The Piano Accident

Magali (Adèle Exarchopoulos), known as Magaloche, is an internet star who has built her “career” on controversy. She posts videos online in which she subjects herself to various, often extreme, acts of self-harm. A serious accident involving a piano during the filming of one of her videos leads her to step back from the spotlight for a while.  

Magalie and her assistant Patrick (Jérôme Commandeur) hole up in a mountain cabin, hoping to isolate themselves from the world and get some rest after all the commotion. However, the protagonist’s peace is disrupted by journalist Simone Herzog (known, among other things, for her leading role in the film Divine Sarah Bernhardt starring Sandrine Kiberlain), who blackmails her into giving the first interview of her career.  

The new film by Quentin Dupieux, director of such films as Daaaaaali!, Deerskin, The Second Act, is a scathing satire exposing all the absurdities of social media and celebrity culture. The French filmmaker, drawing on his (very) dark sense of humor, dissects the emptiness of contemporary popular culture, as well as the thoughtlessness of its audience.
