Chronology of Water is Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, which had its world premiere at Cannes.

The film, which the artist worked on for eight years, is an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s autobiographical book.

Chronology of Water is a poignant story about growing up in the shadow of violence, about youthful self-destruction, and about the salvation found in swimming and writing.

At the heart of the film is the female body—a source of pain, strength, and freedom.

It is through her body that Lydia (a magnificent, physical performance by Imogen Poots) experiences joy and pain, experiments with it and flees from it, trains it and neglects it, drawing all her strength from it.

An impressive, bone-chilling adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s autobiographical novel brilliantly translates words into images.
