Sunday with “The Candidates of Death”

*The Candidates of Death* by Maciej Cuske is an extraordinary chronicle of more than a dozen years of friendship, growing up, and making films together. It’s the story of three boys and the father of one of them, who, over the years during their summer trips, made a series of amateur horror films – eventually creating a one-of-a-kind film series.

The four protagonists of The Candidates of Death and Tomasz Pawlik, the film’s director of photography, will select their favorite installments of the series, which we’ll see during a special screening.

After the screening, there will be a discussion among the crew about what influenced their choices, their memories from the set, and how their extraordinary film project has evolved over the years.

The film The Candidates of Death will have its theatrical premiere on August 7.

Kelvin Kaliński and the surviving son of his deceased friend rescue a sheriff from a gruesome accident in a nearby forest. It turns out that a terrifying monster is on the loose in the area. Evil looms over the world, just waiting to emerge from the darkness. Will Sheriff George rise to the challenge and manage to save all of humanity? Or perhaps the unimaginable monster was born only in his imagination?

A couple of tourists in love arrives at a remote cabin owned by Kelvin Kaliński. However, the girl doesn’t feel comfortable there. She’s having strange dreams and tries to persuade her boyfriend to turn back. The gloomy house and the abandoned mill in the area turn out to have a tragic history. Another night awakens the most terrifying demons. In moments like these, can they count on a chance encounter with a ghost hunter who saves the world? And will love prove stronger than the mill’s terrifying secret?

Three condemned men end up in a terrifying prison. The world has gone mad, and people have lost their humanity. Outside, it’s gloomy, empty, and dangerous, but behind bars, reality is even more terrifying. Cruel guards and delirious hallucinations are part of everyday life in this place.

Are the heroes witnessing a terrifying human experiment? Is escape from this nightmarish place even possible? Fortunately, Kelvin’s father used to be a locksmith…

Jacek, Maciej, and Kelvin set off for the mountains. The trip is no ordinary idyll. Maciej is going through a family crisis, Kelvin can’t tear himself away from his work responsibilities, and Jacek is haunted by nightmares. The expedition is meant to help mend their long-neglected friendship. In the labyrinth of rocks, however, it’s all too easy to get lost, and the darkness can unleash the most terrifying fears hidden within each of us. Will the friends find each other? And above all, will each of them come face to face with their true selves? Will they dare to stand before the mirror of time and peer into their own dark inner selves? And most importantly, how do you properly set up a camping table?

Friends Stasiu, Tomo, and Kelvin want to meet again in ten years, once they’ve fulfilled the plans and dreams of their twenties. But what if evil creeps into their plans and dreams? Reality likes to play tricks, and it’s dangerous to imagine the future. Have the boys pushed their luck – or even defied fate – too far? Could they face punishment for it? And if the characters have lost their way in the labyrinths of their own minds, will they still be able to escape? And will Kelvin have time to cross himself before his next investment?
