Red Tent - Exercises in Bleeding. Discussion about the project

The exhibition at the Nuremberg House Gallery and the publication Red Tent - Exercises in Bleeding served as a culmination of a long-term project initiated by Iza Moczarna-Pasiek. The centerpiece of the exhibition was the installation The Great Red Tent, composed of drawings, paintings, embroidery, photographs, prints, and sculptures. It referenced the idea of the red tent, which in traditional cultures was a place where women experienced menstruation together. Through contact with the spiritual world, they sought solutions not only to their own problems but also to those of the entire community. The power flowing from menstruation proved to be a source of social strength. The contemporary Red Tent is a place of sisterhood for those who experience menstruation, of exchange, and of embodied care. Its concept has recently been revived and has become a symbolic place for breaking the conspiracy of silence, reclaiming menstrual traditions, and reclaiming collective power and agency within the contemporary, post-gender socio-cultural landscape. It is a space of connection, autonomy, celebration of cyclicality, and the power to create and make decisions about life.

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual publication of the same title. It serves as a visual and verbal record of the project. It explores the experience of menstruation from a wide range of perspectives, from highly personal menstrual herstories, through texts by Agnieszka Szpila, Alicja Długołęcka, and Magda Ujma, to a critical essay by curator Zofia Reznik Sexy Blood ♥ Where Is Polish Menstrual Art? published in Szum magazine.
