Screening with an introduction by Klaudia Rachubińska.
A new 4K restored version of one of the greatest masterpieces of Spanish cinema, marking the 50th anniversary of its release.
Raise Ravens is a story as fleeting as it is unsettling about 8-year-old Anna (the unforgettable Ana Torrent), who one summer grapples with her emotions toward her beloved mother (the mesmerizing Geraldine Chaplin). Dressed in a red turtleneck, the girl lives in a huge house with her two sisters, her aunt, and her grandmother – in a world full of incredible objects and tightly sealed off from reality.
Weaving together a child’s imagination with local history, the film is both a poignant portrait of childhood and a diagnosis of a nation that had long been under General Franco’s dictatorship. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this masterpiece by master filmmaker Carlos Saura is steeped in fairy-tale magic – not only because of its timeless charm, but also its mystery and darkness.
Bathed in a green glow that heralds the coming of autumn, Raise Ravens evokes associations with another story about memory, recollections, and the power of a child’s imagination – Céline Sciamma’s *Little Mom*.
The 4K restored version was completed in 2026 and screened for the first time in the Cannes Classics section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
