KINOMUZEUM and the VHS Hell collective invite you to an evening entirely devoted to video culture. If you fondly remember the days when the rhythm of the week was set by the release dates at your local video store, you won't be disappointed.
On March 12, we will watch a remastered copy of Puppet Master – a cult horror film that could be found in every Polish rental store – and meet Grzegorz Fortuna Jr., author of the book on video culture „Elektroniczny bandyta. Rynek wideo w Polsce okresu transformacji”.
The meeting will be moderated by Olga Drenda.
Puppet Master is the biggest hit in the career of legendary American genre film producer Charles Band, which has spawned fourteen sequels and crossovers and achieved cult status.
The titular dolls, brought to life by a secret ancient Egyptian formula, defend the secret of their creator, Toulon. Anyone who wants to possess the puppeteer's dark secret must die. Once again, man learns that evil comes in even the smallest of forms. Mr. Head, Miss Leech, Drill, and several other puppets prove that secrets are sacred.
The excellently made Puppet Master was an extremely important film for Polish VHS rental stores – cassettes with the film could be found in almost every Polish rental store, and for many teenagers at the time, watching Banda's production was a kind of baptism of fire in the field of horror cinema.
