Join us for a discussion about the emotions mentioned in the title and Edward Dwurnik’s work as a source of literary inspiration. Antonina Tosiek will discuss how to write in the style of Dwurnik with artist Pola Dwurnik, Aleksandra Zdroja, author of *The Worker’s Stain*, and Maciej Jakubowiak, author of *Those Two Over There* —short stories published in the book *Pride and Shame: Seven Stories and a Poem*.
In this book, the most intriguing voices of the younger generation—known for their critical perspective on changing lifestyles and social hierarchies—engage in a dialogue with Dwurnik’s paintings. This literature revolves around the two titular emotions of key importance to the painter, who demonstrated how society creates visions of social advancement and decline, success and disgrace. The stories by Zbroja and Jakubowiak also share with Dwurnik’s paintings a sense of humor and even a certain excess.
The book accompanies Edward Dwurnik’s exhibition “Pride and Shame” at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
