Projection on the façade of the MSN Warsaw building
Agnieszka Polska is a visual artist and film director who uses computer-generated media for reflection on the individual and their social responsibility in the context of environments driven by the flow of information.
She translates the ethical and social challenges of our times into engrossing, meditative films and installations. Her works are often constructed from emotional, auditory and visual stimuli, exploring the processes and changes in the consciousness of societies.
Prediction is a video work by Polska using animation and text inspired by speculative literature, systems theory, cybernetics, and science fiction. Brief, randomly projected “fortunes”—statements about the future—are displayed on black-and-white boards patterned on the traditional graphic framing of dialog from silent movies. Each paragraph is processed by an AI model using stable diffusion, giving the effect of slow entropy of the text, which appears and disappears, dissolving into incomprehensible, dynamically generated characters.
The work can be viewed for an extended time in the form of a randomly generated poem, or just for a brief moment when the viewer needs an answer to a question or a clue to the future.
With its almost unlimited potential, generative AI has been the subject of intense research for some time. Rapid progress has been made over the past few years in both the efficiency and performance of generative image models. Polska is most interested in the extent to which digital media and progressive development of technology can convey emotions and influence audiences. Polska’s work, projected onto the main façade of the new MSN Warsaw building, displays the innovative use of technology in a narrative of the unknown, going beyond the typical patterns for visualizing the future and digital aesthetics.
