Movie night dedicated to Anka Ptaszkowska
Film screening and meeting with Karol Sienkiewicz

We invite you to an evening dedicated to the memory of Anka Ptaszkowska – a critic, curator, and initiator of activities that had a significant impact on the shape of post-war avant-garde art in Poland and beyond.
Ptaszkowska worked as a critic, gallery owner, and exhibition organizer. In 1966, she co-founded the Foksal Gallery, and from the 1970s onwards, she continued her curatorial and critical work in Paris.
She valued experimentation and adventure more than the permanence of institutional forms, and her aversion to rigid roles and conventions was one of the cornerstones of her thinking about art. She said of herself: "I am not an artist, and that is the last thing I would wish for myself."
As part of the event, we will show two films created in direct dialogue with her attitude and practice.
Złota jesień by Agnieszka Tarasiuk is a conceptual experiment carried out according to Anka Ptaszkowska's instructions in 2019–2020, contrary to the feeling of art's powerlessness in the face of the pandemic and social crises.
Anna Molska's film Wyobraźcie sobie, że istnieje prawda w sztuce, based on Ptaszkowska's archive and texts, was presented at the exhibition "Anka Ptaszkowska. Przypadkiem" at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw in 2023.
The screenings will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers, moderated by Karol Sienkiewicz.
