The film Hamnet, by Oscar®-winning screenwriter and director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), tells the moving love story that inspired Shakespeare to create his timeless masterpiece Hamlet.

It is the moving love story of William, an ambitious playwright, and his wife Agnes. Their idyllic life is shattered when the plague strikes, affecting their children, Hamnet and Judith.
 
Years later, William writes a new play called Hamlet to cope with his grief.
 
The film is based on Maggie O'Farrell's 2020 best-selling novel, which has sold 2 million copies in the UK and US and has been translated into 40 languages.
 
The film stars Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson, and Joe Alwyn.
 
The soundtrack was composed by Max Richter, with cinematography by Polish cinematographer Łukasz Żal (The Zone of Interest, Cold War), and directed by Chloé Zhao, who won an Oscar® for Best Picture and Best Director for Nomadland. The costumes for the film were designed by Malgosia Turżanska, who received an Oscar® nomination for her work.
 
Hamnet received 11 BAFTA nominations and 8 Oscar nominations.
