I talked at length with Hind's mother, with the people on the other end of the phone trying to help her. I listened. I cried. I wrote.

Based on their accounts, I wove a story, also using actual recordings of Hind's voice and constructing a film set in a single location, in which violence remains off-screen. It was a conscious decision. Because images of violence are everywhere – on our screens, on social media, on our phones.
I believe that fiction (especially when it draws on painful, real events) is cinema's most powerful tool. More powerful than the noise of the news or the fleeting nature of scrolling. Cinema can preserve memory. Cinema can resist amnesia. Let Hind Rajab's voice be heard.
